Perth Convention Bureau (PCB) Business Development Manager Malcolm Farrell-Mitchell travelled to India in early August to represent Western Australia at the Australia Marketplace India (AMI) alongside Tourism Western Australia.
The four-day tradeshow saw PCB and Tourism WA exhibiting alongside Destination Perth, Pan Pacific, the Perth Mint, Metro Hotels, Aussie Perth Tours, and Wel-Travel in Indian destinations Kochi and Mumbai.
With an 8.8% growth on visitors from India to Western Australia between March 2018 and March 2019, the event was well timed to promote Perth and Western Australia to Leisure and MICE travellers, particularly with the upcoming Women’s and Men’s T20 Cricket World Cups taking place in Perth next year. Five of the Women’s T20 matches are set to take place at the WACA over March and April 2020, while Perth Stadium* will host six of the Men’s T20 matches in October and November 2020.
“The future outlook of the Indian economy, given its young demography, strong fundamentals and sustained growth over the last few years, looks absolutely promising,” said Nishant Kashikar, Country Manager, India & Gulf, Tourism Australia. “As the host nation of the upcoming T20 Cricket World Cup, played as two standalone tournaments for women and men, the coming year will be an exciting time for us, and we look forward to welcoming more Indian travellers to Australia.”
PCB would like to thank Tourism WA and Singapore Airlines for supporting our attendance at this tradeshow and encourage our members to consider attending in 2020. With direct flights between Perth and Mumbai potentially on the horizon, there has never been a better time to enter the market in India.
