WA reconnects at a record IMEX
A record number of more than 3800 hosted buyers from 60 different
markets attended Europe's biggest meetings industry tradeshow IMEX in
Frankfurt on 24 — 26 May.
The Bureau partnered with Perth Convention Exhibition Centre and
Business Events Australia on the Australia stand along with other
Australian convention bureaux and venues.
At this year's event Tourism Australia and the Australia Stand partners launched a new marketing toolkit for associations. The toolkit
is just one activity to so far come out of a $1.8 million three year
partnership, between Tourism Australia, the Australian Association of
Convention Bureaux and major Australian convention centres, with the aim
to raise Australia's profile as a destination for international
association meetings.
Also at the show, the PCB once again helped host a successful
Energy Cities Alliance (ECA) 'Energiser Breakfast' with partners
Calgary, Abu Dhabi and Aberdeen. 14 buyers and nine media
representatives attended.

PCB European Representative, Rethi Scaife, said that for WA IMEX
2010 proved a platform for reconnecting with clients. "The need for a WA
presence at this important industry show was reinforced this year more
than ever as a means for international clients to connect and
communicate with WA face to face.
"The quality of international association queries was high,
especially from the UK/Europe markets, and clients spanned the areas of
medical research, oil and gas, resources and engineering, tying in with
WA's strength industries."

Academics share in $60,000
Eleven Perth university academics have shared $60,000 in
professional development scholarships awarded by the Perth Convention
Bureau.
Ten $5,000 scholarships — presented at a breakfast function at the
Art Gallery of WA last month— were awarded to two representatives from
each of Perth's five leading metropolitan universities. A separate
$10,000 scholarship sponsored by the City of Perth was also awarded.
Each of the winners plans to use their scholarship to attend
international conferences or symposia in subjects ranging from
engineering and preventative medicine to law and geology. Several will
lodge bids for future conventions while the others will canvass support
for Perth to be a future meeting destination.
This year's program alone has identified potential convention
business worth more than $55.60 million in estimated direct delegate
expenditure.
